The World Heritage Day is an initiative by the German Commission for UNESCO and the German UNESCO World Heritage Sites Association (UNESCO-Welterbestätten Deutschland e.V.). All UNESCO-World Heritage sites in Germany are invited to join the celebrations. Every year one site organises a central event.

Mediation of World Heritage Idea

The aim of the World Heritage Day is to raise public awareness of German World Heritage sites not only as places of extremely careful conservation work, but as well as crucial mediators of the UNESCO-ideals. Hence, central themes of the World Heritage Day are cultural dialogue and encounter.
